This book is about Emil Sinclair and his childhood growing up during pre-World War I. Emil struggles to find his new self-knowledge in the immoral world and is caught between good and evil, which is represented as the light and dark. He lives in a house described as Scheinwelt, a play on words meaning "world of light" as well as "world of illusion".
This book is not only fascinating premise-wise, but also how it shaped pop-culture, especially prompted by @bts.bighitofficial. A lot of BTS’ music videos and songs are heavily inspired by Demian (and also Carl Jung’s books, which influenced Hermann Hesse to write this book). Demian’s influence on BTS works gets their fans to read this book, which is so inspiring to us! We are so happy to find out that BTS, Blackpink (we also found a Jisoo’s reading list!) and other Kpop artists can inspire young people not only from their music and their hard work, but also their taste in reading and how books influence their works.
The chosen cover shows the dark and light side of life, good and evil, "world of light" and "world of illusion"; while the killed cover shows a part of the book telling the reader that the world is an egg and we have to fight to out of it to be "born".
