I’ve always been attracted to the concept of the continuous line. It brings fluidity and movement to a piece without complicating things. Broadly speaking, contrast occurs with extremes—in this case black and white—that prod one another and initiate a striking conversation. It’s a bold dialogue that ebbs and flows until there is nothing more to be said.

When I began this body of work I was simply exploring the contours of the human face. As the process continued to develop, I began to find interest in how line weight came into play with contrast. The shift between harsh white and rich black creates an unexpected solidarity. There is an emotional component to this opposition and it seems to manifest itself in the physicality of the features. While the emotion evoked is very much up for interpretation, it’s simply a conversation between myself and the canvas. It is a self-reflection; founded by my own meditations.
