For this brief we were tasked with exploring Johannesburg and finding the essence of what makes the city unique culturally and historically, which will then be translated into a typeface. 

The type was inspired by the noticeable difference between Maboneng and Jeppestown. Maboneng is a culturally and artistic area that is frequented by artists and those who admire the arts, whereas Jeppestown is a township right next to Maboneng that is overcrowded and less developed than maboneng. The typeface mimics the conversations that are typical of Jeppestown, loud and busy. The stylistic choice of the type was influenced by the stencil artworks that can be seen around Maboneng.
