The goal was to change the lighting. I applied a gradient map to get this Northern Lights effect.

The goal was to convert a photo to black and white. I combined a gradient map across the whole image with a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer masked to affect only the foreground. The tower blended too much into the trees for my liking with just the gradient map.
