Valtice Castle Czech Republic

Valtice Castle (Feldsberg) is located in Valtice im Okres Břeclav in the Czech Republic. The castle is part of the Lednice-Valtice cultural landscape which has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Feldsberg was built in the middle of the 17th century in the Baroque style on the site of an older castle owned by the House of Liechtenstein since the 13th century. The builder was probably Prince Karl Eusebius of Liechtenstein. The original designs come from the architect Giovanni Giacomo Tencalla, the extensions in high baroque style from Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach. Some of the halls and rooms, some of which have been restored, are rich in Baroque wall decoration. The most interesting are the Hall of Mirrors, the Picture Gallery, the Castle Chapel and the Small Salon of Prince Charles. Many rooms are decorated with ceiling frescoes. The castle is surrounded by a nature and landscape park with valuable decorative buildings, among them the mighty colonnade of travellers with Corinthian columns built according to plans by Joseph Hardtmuth from 1811 to 1823 and the Diana Temple (1812), also designed by Hardtmuth, also known as the Rendezvous, reminiscent of a Roman triumphal arch.
