Reinventing the Retail Buying Experience

In class, we were put in groups of four to analyze the current retail buying experience and enhance it. Our group was focusing on home appliances. We used the double diagram process to come up with two concepts: "Shoppy", a digital shopping navigator, and "Co-Advertizing", which consits in using a popular service in order to promote products in a store.

The following pdf shows our final presentation.
As the pdf states, we came up with two different concepts.

The first one answered to the strategic problem: how can retailers create a more interactive experience for customers and organize the products to be easily compared?
We created a whole new environment of retail buying where a tablet, called Shoppy, would serve as a guide through the buying experience. Shoppy would allow customers to find products in the store (thanks to augmented reality), to get product information (thanks to a bar code scanner), to compare products and to check out efficiently. Once the payement is done, the client would return Shoppy at the exit at the store and get a pick up ticket to get his/her order.

The second concept answered to the strategic question: How can retailers encourage customers to buy more products in the store?

For that, we imagined a store where each appliance would have a demo desk and professionals would come do live demos in the store. These professionals would actually be advertizing their companies and using local products to promote the communitie's businesses. We also thought that some areas of the store could be focused on customers, encouraging them to try out the porducts.

BLUEPRINT - Concept 2: Co-advertizing
PROTOTYPE - Demo booth for coffee machines
PROTOTYPE - Token taken from booth to cashier for check-out process
