Genoa university housing

A first glance at Sarzano square and the surrounding area. I decided to create a simple building with a subtile floorplan to occupy the smallest space. Project I designed adapts itself to the site to improve the appearance of Sarzano square and to reflect the dominant of deparment of architecture and design. However there are historical buildings surrounding this specific area with a local architecture, I designed a nine storey building, which is above those buildings around, but it fits perfectly in the urban skyline.
I wanted to create a simple university housing. That is why I designed a simple structure of floorplans. My residence building consists of nine floors, which are divided horizontally according to their functions, visible also on facades. The undeground and the first floor may be used by students, as well as, by common visitors. Interior of these two floors is visible also from outside. Next six floors, where there is accomodation section, have facade which hides, what is inside. There are four residential apartments on each floor. Two apartments on each floor have 30 square meters and two apartments have 60 square meters. In addition, there is a common relaxing area on each floor in the corridor, where students can spend time together. The eight and nineth floor are used as a studio and library for students of the university. There is also glass wall facade with a specific shading system, creating a margin between the city and the sea.
I wanted to create a building, which is easy to read by a common pedestrian. I think those glass facades gave the buillding the sense of openness to the place. I also think that thanks to that, the space in front of the San Salvatore church is more free and open as well, and it could still maintain its strong historical value. It was important for me to create a public space, which will connect the historical structure and the contemporary residential building I also wanted to connect the sea by a close path leading to it (Vico Sotto le Murette ) and that is why I designed an exterior staircase, which could be used as a place to sit and have a coffee.
My residential building is contemporary, using modern and ecological materials. When it comes to construction system, it consists of concrete walls in the undeground. The supporting system of the underground floor is a reinforced concrete wall system, on which the wooden glued columns are placed, which serve as the construction of the first floor. Spatial stiffness is ensured by wooden glued dies.

The main construction of the building is made of CLT Panels in the main part of the building. The construction of the panels is of a permanent shape and the structure itself, thanks to the homogeneity of the elements and the thoughtful system of connecting the elements, is free of thermal bridges.
The eight and nineth floor is made of steel construction. The construction is subtle on these two floors. The facade on these two floors made of glass with specific shading system, so I put emphasis on the "almost invisible" design of the construction. The non-transparent facade is made of fiber-cement slabs that are vertically positioned at the height of the entire floor. The color of  boards has a concrete like structure with a smooth surface. Cedral facade boards are very similar to natural wood, but in addition to wood, they have positive properties.
