Noteworthy Sites in Historic Melbourne

Based in Southborough, Massachusetts, William Shields is a real estate investment executive who has achieved Manulife's Stars of Excellence Award on several occasions, including most recently in 2016. An avid traveler, William Shields had the opportunity to travel from his home in Southborough to Melbourne in 2018, where he explored the city by tram line and viewed the city from the top of Eureka Tower.

One of the most popular ways to explore Melbourne is the City Circle Tram, which is free to get on and off, at any station on its route, and encompasses the Docklands and the Queen Victoria Market, as well as Federation Square and Flinders Street Station. The tram travels along La Trobe Street, Harbour Esplanade, Flinders Street and Spring Street.

Along the tram’s route, riders enjoy views of numerous cathedrals, city gardens, government buildings and museums. The route circles Melbourne’s Central Business District. Riders can easily spend numerous days using the tram to see many of the city’s prominent attractions. Docklands Stadium, home to the Australian Football League, is also accessible from the tram.

For those wanting a view of the city from above, Eureka Tower provides visitors with an unobstructed aerial view of Melbourne. Eureka Tower is the tallest building in Melbourne and its observation deck is open year-round. It offers stunning views of the Royal Botanic Gardens, which are situated on the Yarra River and have a reputation for housing one of the most wide-ranging collections of rare plants in Australia.

Another prominent view from the top of the Eureka Tower is the famous blue tennis courts of the Australian Open. The Australian Open is played every January and is typically the largest sporting event in the Southern Hemisphere.
