Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful

The District’s education and outreach programs seek to help the public understand, conserve and protect our water resources. With Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful, we made these posters to inform students about how a watershed works, the restoration process and wetland species.

I used different design elements to engage students about the importance of one of Florida's largest estuaries. It took months to complete it but everyone involved with the project loved the outcome. It was a challenge to identify the many processes of estuaries and restoring a shoreline in a way that children could easily interpret. I looked at several scientific watershed maps and came up with the first panel. While it encompasses all that I learned from reviewing the Hillsborough Watershed, I found creative ways to simplify the information.

Our team was able to cut back on unnecessary text to allow for more colors and images to flow through the panels. I think our collaboration helped make this a successful project.

Every project I work on, rather it be for children or coworkers in my building, I'm always so glad to learn about the context of the project so that I can work on simplifying it for the public. It helps me make the piece visually aesthetic, challenges me mentally and over all, allows me to learn more about the district and specified topics within smaller segments.
