I lead the content marketing strategy for the WebMD mobile site, and was part of the core team of 5 that created the site strategy and rollout in 2010. It was a challenge communicating complex health-related topics on a small screen, but we mitigated that with good use of imagery, short text, and innovative design to create an engaging, life-like experience that doesn't feel small.
We now have an audience of over 12 million unique users per month with annual advertising revenue over $4M. WebMD Mobile was also recently rated the #1 Mobile Health & Wellness site according to Comscore.
Mobile sites are effective at capturing customers where customers increasingly are - on mobile web - and the distribution is phenomenal because you are not relying on an app download.
