The new, ergonomically improved Balans chair for fifth percentile females.

The Balans chair was originally designed by Peter Opsvik in 1979. Our task was to redesign the chair to better suit the Indian females belonging to the fifth percentile group.

The traditional Balans chair has two separate knee pads for each knee. In our version, with the increment in the length of the knee pad into a single unit, the pressure was shifted from just the knees to both knees and shins which resulted less pressure on the knee

Through the making of this chair, we understood the concept of ergonomics and why it is so important in Product Design and Furniture design.
