ISTD - Lost, King Lear

In response to the theme ‘Lost’ for ISTD, I found myself drawn to William Shakespeare’s protagonist King Lear. Throughout the play, King Lear experiences loss on many levels. From losing his most prized daughter, Cordelia after her banishment, to losing his mind, his kingdom and eventually his life. Through a series of ten screen printed typographic posters I will capture his moments of turmoil and loss. Accompanying the posters will be ten playbooks which will capture snippets of the acts and scenes in which Lear’s character appears. The book cover colour will reiterate Lear’s loss, which follows a gradient starting at a bright red, which represents Lear’s authority and royal status the first act and scene which gradually declines into a dark maroon, when all is lost and there is no hope left for Lear.
