This is a project for humanity, it is created to benefit the human as an individual but also the human race as a community. It is about inner growth and cultivating compassion and empathy, through creating awareness and interaction with empathy. This project is focused on the Holes in Humanity and how we can help fill them with empathy.
I did a questionnaire regarding emotion and logic and found that people actually have a yearning for emotional interaction. I then related this back to the idea of empathy and finding that middle ground between logic and emotion. Empathy is that middle ground between logic and emotional thinking. Through research I found concept of the empathy map and extended that into my project and adapted it to fit my goals and views among the research I received in my own questionnaires.
I am fascinated with the idea of what it means to be happy, and found that it is as significant as a change of perspective. There are multiple ways of changing your perspective and I found the by reacting with logic or with emotion makes an immense difference and impact.
The project is interactive and contains 10 interactive pieces, that consists of a base with four rotating shapes on each edge representing thinks, says, feels and does. Each shape is rotated according to the amount of empathy felt in each action according to the specific scenario.
Each interactive piece is used to determine the space left between the shapes, that space is traced on tracing paper and the viewer uses it to fill it with themselves.
The box containing Holes in Humanity is made from raw chipboard with only a simple a cutout, to refer back to the name of project “Holes in humanity”.
Book pages fill the box, distributed throughout the interactive pieces to explain the project and the goal of “Holes In Humanity”.
