Re:Fresh is a design inspired by the Slow Movement and the revitalization of purposeful living. With more than 50% of the current population living in urban areas, our connection with the natural world is slowly fading. The Slow Movement is all about recognizing the impacts of fast paced life in a time where technology and social interaction reign supreme. The people most affected by the stress of hectic surroundings are those of us living in condensed urban areas.
City planners, landscape designers, green thumb enthusiasts, and many more are working towards incorporating more green living space into cities. The exposure to green fields and fresh plants rejuvenates the spirit, filters dirty air and water, and can also provide a place for growing food.
Re:fresh brings that contrast between man-made materials and natural growth into a small scale in the home. The end user of the herb garden is provided with a miniature skyscraper system with green rooftops. This constant exposure subliminally reminds the user to embrace the urban life while simultaneously making time to slow down and enjoy nature. The entire metal nesting structure and potted plants can be hung on the wall or placed on a surface in the home. The pottery is easily removed and can be set alone or in a small group as a centerpiece. This also creates a small city-like aesthetic with a collection of various sized buildings with green rooftop gardens.
Furthermore, the care required in handling the ceramic, growing the herbs, and incorporating them into a dish are all symbolic of the slow living lifestyle and its rewards. Take the time to enjoy the act of living.
