A selection of fonts and letterforms I have created from scratch. Each one comes from a different project. For most of them, their forms, dimensions and rules are based on logos, themes and/or spaces from each of those projects, which is why some of them look a little strange in this environment. It is also the reason why I have yet to create a full alphabet as it has never been necessary.

When I draw up a design concept, I often have an idea of what I want my fonts to look like. Instead of trawling through pages and lists of fonts, looking for the one that best matches my needs, I create my own to match my ideas to the letter.
This piece of typography is very much its own form, hence why it is separated from the collection above. Rockology: Part 1 was the first heavy metal gig I organised and I did all of the necessary designs for it myself. For the title, I had a few ideas and did some very basic pencil sketches to find the right layout. Once I had the layout I wanted, I tried re-configuring the words from the title before focusing on the overall shape. I focused on the letter 'o' as it is quite prominent in the word Rockology. My final design is somewhat psychedelic with hints of 80's thrash
With my roots in art, I like to try and bring artistic elements into my design. It makes for fun experimentation! For Metal Monday, one of my later gigs, I came up with this grungy, exciting, typographic shape. I sketched the layout I wanted, then drew it carefully and cut out the shapes. I then placed the shapes onto a page of watercolour paper and blew ink all over the stencil. Unfortunately, the stencil pieces were not flat enough and the result was a little bit messy, but then experimentation can go either way. After scanning it onto my computer, I was able to sharpen it up and use it on a variety of coloured backgrounds.
