Mesozoic Monsters Overtake Fernbank Museum’s 3D Giant Screen Theater
3D film gives life to ancient pterosaurs the size of airplanes

ATLANTA, Jan. 11, 2018 – Starting today, guests can journey 220 million years back in time to when massive pterosaurs ruled the skies with Fernbank Museum of Natural History’s newest Giant Screen film, Flying Monsters 3D.

“Pterosaurs existed during the time of the dinosaurs, but they were vastly different,” said Fernbank’s Director of Education, Sarah Arnold. “Pterosaurs were the first to develop flight after insects, and Flying Monsters 3D delves into just how and why they may have taken to the skies. It’s a great introduction we’re excited to offer alongside the Pterosaurs: Flight in the Age of the Dinosaurs exhibit that opens February 9.”

Naturalist icon Sir David Attenborough narrates Flying Monsters 3D as it spans the hundreds of millennia that pterosaurs evolved and thrived alongside dinosaurs. Throughout the film, state-of-the-art 3D CGI technology and pioneering scientific techniques reveal new details about pterosaurs, resolving mysteries that have intrigued scientists for more than two centuries.

“3D is a wonderful way of seeing the world as the pterosaurs did,” said Attenborough. “Pterosaurs are the most unlikely of creatures, but they dominated the skies for millions of years, and now this film will enable us to fly in 3D with the largest flying creatures the world has ever known.”

The film will coincide with Fernbank Museum’s newest special exhibit, Pterosaurs: Flight in the Age of the Dinosaurs, on view Feb. 9 – May 5, 2019, inviting guests to further immerse themselves in the world of pterosaurs through interactive elements, captivating videos, authentic fossils and life-size models, including the giant Quetzalcoatlus with a 33-foot wingspan.

Flying Monsters 3D will show daily at Fernbank Museum’s Giant Screen Theater from Jan. 11 until June 1, 2019. Giant Screen Theater tickets are $13 for adults, $12 for seniors, $11 for children and $8 for Museum members. Save on movies with the purchase of a Value Pass combination ticket, offering the movie and museum admission for $23-$27.
