Capstone Research & Programming Book: The Film Museum

Abstract: The relevance of this project to contemporary society and to the world is that film is something that is greatly loved and needed by society. Film has been used in various ways to satisfy the human needs of comfort, security, happiness, discovery, education, and most importantly- escape. Movies have been used in the most crucial times in people’s lives, providing them with an outlet to escape the troubles/ issues of the outside world. This type of entertainment becomes a social factor in society because it gives people the opportunity to socialize and communicate with others, promoting a way for many to come together as a unit. Today, this is important due to the unrest from politics in the media and other conflicting matters that contribute to the division of people/ society across the world. By redeveloping the Cherry Street Pier and transforming it into the Film Museum, it will be an exciting addition to the Philadelphian community and will be an important contributor in providing knowledge to those who do not know much about the history of film, its evolution, and why it’s important to society.
