Do It Together (DIT) Tower

Delighted and honored to have been shortlisted in the Dezeen X MINI Living competition to design an urban home for year 2119, from over 400 international entries!  The competition asked us to consider innovative solutions to the challenges living in our cities will face in the future.  More about the competition and winners can be found here: https://www.dezeen.com/2018/12/13/mini-living-future-urban-home-competition-shortlist-top-15-designs/

Here is our proposal:

Do It Together (DIT) Tower envisions a future where residents of an exoskeletal tower have complete freedom and autonomy to create their own living space within a plot of the floor plate. Expanding upon the existing maker movement and DIY culture, residents can utilize community-owned robotic 3D printers on each floor to build, recycle, and adapt their house however and whenever they want.

The concept retains aspects of the traditional neighborhood such as green space, the street and shared community spaces while addressing the needs of cities in 100 years including population increase, living with technology, sustainability and self-sufficiency, mobility, and density. DIT tower aims to create a vibrant ‘neighborhood in the sky’ that offers maximum creative freedom from the individual to the collective scale.

Congratulations to the winners and other outstanding ideas, and extra special thank you to my collaborator Ryan Donald.
