Aurora Borealis chess set

As the decline of CD usage all around the world due to rapid technological advances, a vast stacks of disks were left to be thrown. This project was initiated to give effort into creating a new life for waste products.
Aurora Borealis chess set was named after the northern lights which resemble the holographic characteristic of the disks. Excess CD paired with scrap woods are transformed into functional and aesthetically attractive product. At least 95% of the materials are up-cycled.
Behind-the-scene: This was a group project and I was responsible for cutting out the disks. I realized then how difficult it was to cut cd with precision. Scissors and cutter do not work. I could only use band saw. Overall we were satisfied with the end results plus we didn't spend anything for the materials. It was all scraps and excess including the paints. Help mother earth.
