The Thing: Reborn directed by Guillermo del Toro [20th Century Fox, Universal, Paramount]
A rescue team (5 Men, 3 Women) are sent out to find out what happened to Kurt Russell's exploration team in Antarctica, and they stumble upon the remains of it's members, and the corpse of a dog. Members of the rescue team start to panic, and question what happened, and what they should do next, when they are radioed to return to home base in Guatemala. One copter containing 3 people lifts off the ground, unknowingly containing the Thing from the prequel (digital FX). The other 5 remaining team members become stranded after their copter caves into the ground by an "earthquake" that causes a blackout, and a trench in the frozen terrain. They soon discover they are not alone, and eventually face the Thing from the original film (practical FX) that Kurt Russell managed to survive from in 1982 .
The story separates into two parts: we see the survival, (or destruction), of a military base in Guatemala in one storyline, and an effort by a rescue team to dig into Antarctica to retrieve their helicopter while running out of food in another. People are taken out one by one, Kurt appears as an old man with a torch ready to incinerate anyone who comes near him in Antarctica, and the Thing's true form is finally seen on the outskirts of a small town in Peru.
All the while, one member of the rescue team on land, played by Rooney Mara, tries to illicit a biochemical disease that will ultimately kill the alien being that can impersonate anyone living or dead, while an anchorman stuck on Antarctica, played by Chris Pratt, decides to explore the frozen campground for his missing brother.
