ESPjr Snowcone
Character design for a Caribbean-themed children's brand
ESPjr is a design studio specialising in Caribbean themed content for children. ESPjr is committed to telling Caribbean stories. The first series produced under this brand is called "My island baby" which consists of onezies and t-shirts for babies, toddlers and children ranging from newborn up to age seven. The island taglines are combined with simple, contemporary designs that carry big messages.
Sayada Ramdial Illustration was commissioned to develop a quirky snow cone under this Island Baby series. The character developed captures the fun emotions experienced with this sticky-sweet treat.
A Snow Cone is a refreshing treat made of ice shavings smothered in sweet fruit syrup.
Vendors in Trinidad & Tobago operate from trolleys using a shaving machine to grind down large blocks of ice. The colourful syrup is made from tropical fruits such as guava, tamarind and pineapple. A topping of condensed milk is sometimes added for extra sweetness. Snow cones are perfect on a sunny day, and are a favourite cool down during the heat of Kiddies Carnival.
