Bridges To Bristol

Professor Farmer decided that, as students living in the Bristol community who benefit from the city’s many generous discounts for Roger Williams University students, it was time we gave back to the community.  He gave us a list of local businesses and organizations that offer students discounts and instructed us to pick one, go out and speak with someone who works there, and offer our assistance.  For my project, I choose the Herreshoff Marine Museum because they gave me my first internship and a part-time job when I needed money.  I spoke with the graphic design and marketing associate and the development associate about if I could help in any way, and what potential services I could offer.  We talked about unifying and using the rest of the museum’s campus, recreating the information brochure, making an interactive children’s activity, and replacing their dated logo.  In the end, I created a sign for each accessible building on the campus, a map that can take the form of an interactive display or be printed out on paper, a scavenger hunt for children, a membership card and a new logo.  Unfortunately, the project was more a pipe dream than a potential reality, as the museum could not afford to actualize any of my work.
