This frame displays all that I love about the Florentine style.
The depth of the carving is tremendous.
Apart from a few missing tips and cracks. The overall
condition is good.
Once I've made stable the damage and faults I take an impression of
a similar area that I consider to be close to the missing detail and create a mould
so I can cast my replacement detail.
I would love to replace these missing details with lime or fruit wood but at the moment my carving
skills are limited to "2 1/2D" carving but things are getting better.
So for now I'm replacing the detail with traditional "compo".
After these pieces are solid and secure I coat them and any area that require attention
with a few layers of gesso.
Here you can see the depth of the carving.
