Silverlake Apartments

PROJECT DATE: Winter 2007

OBJECTIVE: We were given a real site in the Silverlake neighborhood of the city of Los Angeles and ask to design a housing complex for the communtiy.

Anyone who's been to Silverlake knows what a massive artist/creative culture there is out there. The concept for my design is based on this sense of communtiy that thrives in this area of LA. Hence, creating a live/work environment where residents can live on the first floor and also run their business storefronts along the street was important.

These live/work spaces are complimented with 3-bedroom units on the second floor and 2-bedroom units on the third. The complex geometric patterns that emerge form large groups of open "courtyard" buildings, where all the views to the outside are either facing prime street views or prime courtyard garden views. Hence, there is no window with a bad view for our aspiring hipster residents.
