Warukunai Sake

For my Visual Communication course, we were tasked to brand and package a wine trio from a list of themes or sayings. I was assigned the phrase "See No Evil, Hear No Evil, and Speak No Evil."  Through some researched, I discovered the phrase was linked to the Japanese figures of the three wise monkeys: Mizaru, Kikazaru, and Iwazaru. I also found several photos of geishas posed like the statues of the three wise monkeys in several photo archieves.

This inspired me to use geishas as the focal figure for my design due to their role in Japanese culture. Emerging around the 18th century, geishas were professional, often sexual, entertainers that would overhear secrets or information about their clients. This reminded me of the moments shared during drinking sessions: the sharing of secrets, inhibition of senses, and pleasure and enjoyment shared with friends.

Warukunai merges the Japanese origin of  geishas and drinking culture from past and present into a premiere sake that will definitely leave you satisfied!

I decided to go with sake instead of wine and a ceramic bottle that was similar to more traditional sake bottles to relate to the geisha concept.
