Intersections: The RIT podcast logo and visual identity

Rochester Institute of Technology was planning to launch a twice-monthly podcast with a simple premise: a conversation between two people whose daily work is making a difference in the world. My role was to create a logo and simple visual identity for this new media product.
I began by surveying the current media products at RIT, and thinking about how I could keep the new design in the same family, yet best represent the soul of the new podcast. I also did some research on current podcast design trends and conventions.
I then moved from sketches to explorations in Illustrator, to three high fidelity comps which I presented to the client. Each took a slightly different approach to visually representing the concept.
Finally, a direction was chosen, the design was tweaked, and assets were created for Soundcloud, and for promoting the podcast via email and the web.
I really enjoyed the process of distilling the concept of the podcast into a simple visual. Inspired by Venn diagrams and speech bubbles, the final concept is playful and bold.
"Congrats on launching the new podcast! This is an excellent example of Owned Media. While we used to podcast years ago, this really takes it to a whole new level. The format is engaging and it’s another interesting way to get our thought leadership out there. Thanks for thinking this through and giving us another outstanding content product." –Bob Finnerty, RIT Chief Communications Officer
