This project was a study in designing and making chairs out of leftover material from the production of Arne Jacobsen’s series seven chair at Fritz Hansen A/S. The veneer was delivered in three main shapes.
I only used the specific series seven leftovers I was given.
I wanted it to unconsciously and historically stay associated with the original chair. I sought to limit the number of veneer layers, in order to challenge the construction. I used 3 layers of 1 mm veneer.
To pursue a light expression I decided to use a steel frame of 12mm, which had to be related to the chair’s pre determined shell. This resulted in a frame-follows-form chair, which adds to the completeness of the design.
