Annie Poletick's profile

CFDA Fashion Design Project - November 2018

She sneaks out of the house at night to see her older boyfriend. She ditched class three times last week. A month ago, she followed her favorite rock band all the way down to Florida just to get into a party with them. Some even say they saw her in the woods doing cult rituals. But hey, you need to give her one thing: she's living her life the way she wants to and doesn't care what anyone has to say about it, despite her bad reputation.
Naturally, the narrative of this character described above as well as the entirety of this collection was inspired by Joan Jett's hit "Bad Reputation." Dipping into the music genre of punk, for which Joan Jett was known, I utilized patterns and colors typically worn by members of the punk subculture. The F/W collection features silhouettes that are meant to  look unorganized, yet cohesive, as the song states itself that "she doesn't care". The color palette sticks to darker and cooler colors as well as neutrals to stick with the punk undertones of the collection. Bright pops of color here and there are also utilized to give the same kind of shock value for which this girl with the bad reputation strives.
