This is a system created for the Museum of the Moving Image to define its identity. In order to create a working system, it required attention to detail and using unity and harmony in order to create visual interest while allowing the different pieces to function together as a whole. 
The simple black and white and grey colors chosen for the logo, banner, and bag were inspired by the interior of the museum. Majority of the walls in the museum are white with black accents or vice versa. The museum also includes a lot of blue light projecting onto the white spaces, so the end-goal was to keep it simple and think about how the different shades of blue light would interact with the neutral colors. 
The logo used a simple font like the museum already uses while the positive and negative space play around with each other. The pattern is created by using the “M” from the logo to create an interesting design by reflecting the letter both vertically and horizontally. The banner distorts the pattern to resemble a complex maze, but keeps the eye moving around the whole space. It includes a gradation of the pattern to allow the logo to stand out in the space and be the focal point. The bag is just a mirror-image of the banner since the pattern is treated the same and the logo is placed in the same area as the banner.
The exhibition poster for Tut’s Fever Movie Palace is a combination of the exhibit itself: Egyptian tombs and hieroglyphs and 1920’s movie palaces. Using an Egyptian tomb as a background, it is in black and white to create the illusion that it is playing on the screen of the movie palace since there was no color during the 1920s. The same pattern used for the bag and banner is distorted to resemble hieroglyphs and in gold because the color represented power, wealth, and luxury in both centuries. It is also slightly transparent, so the background is still shown. The white allows for the title of the exhibit and the museum’s logo to be seen, while the gold for the date allows it to match the pattern.
The GIF was a combination of the different shades of the blue lights the Museum of the Moving Image has on the inside and varying the size of the logo to create interest. It also includes the neutral colors in relation to the logo, bag, and banner.
The simplistic yet intriguing designs allow for it to be easily readable by the museum tourists.
Both layouts, one horizontal and one vertical, are 11” x 17”. The logo and pattern was created in Adobe Illustrator and the banner and bag was created on Adobe Photoshop from a pre-existing template while editing the different sections. The GIF was also created in Adobe Photoshop.
