Prosperity/Visible music
I created the graphic to attend the 2017 Jing Shan Classic Cultural & Creative Arts Awards. I chose one of its assigned artworks, Preface to Night Banquet under Peach and Plum Blossoms. When I first saw this painting, I felt peace and happiness and that was the same feeling I had when I heard Buddhist rhymes. This painting reminded me of a song “All is prosperous” whose meaning was to depict how heaven looked like. I combined the music into the painting to make the painting not just a painting but an image filled with my emotion and sensation.
I visualized the tune with Tangram, a traditional game in China because both musical notes and Tangram were elements of amazing compositions. I composed the painting with simple symbols, which made the painting sensual and rhythmic. Each tangram pattern was stamped on the paper in order to mimic the handwriting of sheet music. Besides, I turned the background color to emphasize the feeling out of reality.
