Short horror movie poster

1.PROBLEM: WHAT problem were you trying to solve?
TARGET MARKET: I wanted to do a movie poster targeting Short horror fans, ages 10 -     45 years-old, both genders.
2.What RESEARCH did you use to make strategic choices?
3.What is the DESIGN problem: creating a short horror film poster.
COMPETITION RESEARCH: the competition for the type of movie poster I am creating are two short horror films with very great reviews the first would be the short horror film lights out created by David F. Sandberg. The second film would be playing with the devil created by Nick Stenzel. While researching I found that a lot of people were getting tired of the standard creepy music and then jump scares that modern horror films incorporated into there movies like the conjuring, and they wanted to go back the old traditional ways of horror were something taboo was being conjured or formed and it involved people that no idea what they were doing or never believed in such a thing and could actually think rationally and not trip over a rock in modern movie, which inspired me to create a movie poster that leaves the audience to look up what exactly is the Four kings.

4.SOLUTION: HOW did you create a solution? What TECHNICAL tactics did you employ?   What DESIGN tactics did you employ?

ANALYTICAL REASONING: WHY I APPLIED CERTAIN PHOTOSHOP FEATURES: I applied vibrance adjustment layers to create the shade of red that I wanted to get it as close to realistic as possible the flames, as for the hands I wanted a darker shade around them, so I applied a vibrance and saturation layer there also.
Applied a layer style effect:  I used the color and brightness effect to make the skull to a more whiter shade color then the green off set color it had to make it look more in tune with the poster. Also adding an outer glow to the skull to make it seem as it was coming towards the audience. The background I used a black and white layer effect to make the background a solid black color while looking photo realistic.
Applied a smart filter:  I used only one smart filter on the skull because I wanted to make it seem as it was popping out of the poster hopefully, I got that effect right.
Which tool(s) you used to select pixels: I used the electronic magnetic tool to crop objects out of the pictures that I wanted to use for the posters as I see it a lot easier to use then the regular lasso and polygonal lasso tool.
Why you know a photo would be the best resolution:  I only chose images with high resolution so that even if I had to transform them a little, I could feather them and then apply layer style effects so that I can get the clarity and the exact image I wanted to work with right.

RESULTS: Critic feedback: the skull gave off a very scary impression along with the hands holding the candle giving off a ritualistic feeling when looking at the poster.
