The character, named Sumo, was designed for this project. An archetype and distinctive personality were created and the characters fictional environment was considered.

Sumo follows the traditional hero’s archetype, in which he is the hero of his own adventure. He is is a large, strong and bold graffiti artist who is displaced, trapped in present day Johannesburg. His back story reveals that he is of Mayan ethnicity, hence the golden brown colour of his skin. His attire follows a camo colour scheme, which help him to blend in to his new environment and go unnoticed, an important skill for a graffiti artist. His facial tattoos and earrings are symbolic of his Mayan culture, however they act as camouflage, helping him to fit in with the hipsters of Jo’burg.
