Finding Myself
I’ve always had trouble branding myself. My name is long and hard to spell, my work is diverse, and my tastes are eclectic. In the past I’ve come up with overly wrought company names to work under and developed brands that I would wear like an ill-fitting suit. When I decided to put my effort to full time freelance work, I knew I needed a visual identity that communicated more about who I actually am.
Taking Shape
The stylized icosahedron I settled on carries a lot of meaning with it. It’s many faces represent the multi-faced nature of my experience and skill. It's also one of the five Platonic Solids, the only polyhedrons made up of equal angles and sides with the same number of identical faces and vertexes, and as such represents my appreciation for structure, and mathematical precision in my craft.
According to Plato’s geometry this shape also represents the primordial element of water. Water changes shape to fill its container, yet is powerful enough to cut steel, or shape the very earth around it. Water also makes up the majority of life as we know it, yet often goes unnoticed; a very appropriate metaphor for effective design.
Finally, and most literally, the facets have been shaded to make an abstract monograph of my initials.
