Wandering Souls
I knew exactly what I wanted to do for a Gig Poster, so I decided to only sketch out the two main things. Different types of birds and their positions and head shapes. For the birds, they were mostly going to be silhouettes like the head was going to be so I didn't really worry about details like eyes and feathers as much. For the head, I wanted some hair to stick out so different styles for girls hair helped.
In my first draft, I was mostly experimenting with the birds and trying to put them in positions so it looked like they were flying out of the head and into the air. I asked some of my peers of what they thought, and incorporated their comments. The second picture is of my second draft which I thought came out so much better, because I wanted the head and birds to stand out. I increased the lines, added more birds throughout her head and made it larger overall.
I choose the Moody Theater in Austin, Texas because it's a big venue that can hold a lot of people and several real bands have played there before. Austin, Texas because it's nickname is "Live Music Capitol of the World." So why not have a band play there :)
Coming up with a band name was the hardest part I would say. I asked my roommates of what they thought when they looked at it. They kept naming words and phrases, and one of them was wandering. Once I kept saying that word over and over in my head with other words added to it, I came up with "wandering souls". It seemed to fit!
This was very challenging to complete because it called for more creativity coming from me, than to say like the watch I did earlier. We already had an image that we looked too for an example. This time, it all came from me and no one else.
I got comments on how it looked really busy with the lines and the birds, so I decided to completely re-due the entire poster. I kept the head and birds in the exact same place, but just switched their colors around so it was opposite of what they were originally. Added a black background, and a few white dots to make them look like stars. Adjusted the font as well.
I really love how it came out though.
