What worked? I think throughout the shoot, it went okay. I really like how the makeup turned out in terms of the contrast between his non-makeup face, it really shows a difference. During the test shoot, I actually used a different eyeshadow colour but on the actual shoot I decided to use a more deeper colour because I wanted the colour to be more bold. I actually like how it's quite minimalistic in terms of prop so it doesn't overpower the overall message of what my project is about.

What didn't work? I had a bit of difficulty during the shoot which is unfortunate in terms of the positioning of the lights because when I did the test shoot, the lighting diagram worked quite well and I couldn't capture the same effect I did then so I had to change the lighting during the actual shoot, instead I added on a polyboard to not overpower the model with the light directly and I think I also a different backdrop from when I did the test shoot so that may have had a different effect to it. Also the framing I had a hard time to capture because I had this vision in my head on how I wanted the photo to look like but I couldn't quite do that.

What would I have done differently? There is quite a few things I think I would have done differently for example, I think I should've calculated the preparation time better because the lighting set up and the makeup actually took a bit of time so next time I think I would arrive an hour or half an hour earlier to prepare everything in advance so that we are not wasting shooting time and instead dive right into shooting. Also next time I think I would research more on lighting diagrams and how they differ with different backdrops so that I'm prepared that if I was given a different setting, I would be able to quickly think of a solution. Also even though I liked the way the photos turned out, I think that if I were given a chance to do this again, I would add more colour because most of Vice Magazine tend to be colourful and bold.
This is actually the final lighting diagram for my shoot so as you can see the position of the model changed as well as the addition of the polyboard light. I changed the posture of the model because I didn't want to get the chair in shot, the chair was just a prop so that he can lean on, I wanted to show more of the body.
