ITS- Vice Magazine- The Competitors

The competitors of Vice
Vice has 3 major competitors that are known to the public and the companies themselves in which has been going on for years. The three main competitors are Vox media, Buzzfeed and Mashable in which are all American based companies mainly based in New York and are all either media or digital media companies that focuses in the reality of what is happening around the world.

Vox media is a digital media company that specialises and focuses on areas such as photojournalism, the internet, lifestyle, sport and various other areas that have a link to the public. Vox was founded in the 2000's by Jerome Armstrong, Tyler Bleszinski and Markos Moulitsas and was founded as SportsBlogs but in 2011 was refounded by Joshua Topolsky in which made Vox Media. The main target audience for this company is young adults as it provides an online sports brand, a section/website for gamers and shows sections for beauty and shopping etc. With Vox Media there are several separate brands such as The Verge, Polygon, Curbed and Vox in which brings a lot of views and money to the company and helps to bring more information to the people reading Vox on a daily basis. Across social media platforms and Podcasts, over 750 million people have been reached and every month over 500 Million minutes of videos have been watched by people all over the world.
Buzzfeed (based in America) is another competitor of Vice and is also a digital media company that focuses more on entertainment, the internet, news, social media and publishing. Buzzfeed was founded in 2006 by John Johnson and Jonah Peretti and since then have built the company to become the successful company and website it is now. They have a massive social media following on twitter, facebook, instagram and linkedin but the main way they connect with the public is through their website that publishes stuff such as quizzes, advice, news etc. The official headquarters for buzzfeed is in New York but they have offices all over the world in countries such as France, Brazil and Australia so it helps to bring more publicity to the company as well as widening their audience across various ages. The similarity between Buzzfeed and Vice is that they both have a main target audience of young adults as the contents they bring helps to understand life and helps to understand what is going on in the reality but buzzfeed seems to ease into topics more than vice which is why people prefer buzzfeed.
Mashable is the final major competitor of Vice magazine in which is a media company that focuses in the generation of technology and the culture that focuses on digital platforms. The company was founded in 2005 by Pete Cashmore whilst he was in Scotland and has become a global multi-platform media company that has at least 45M uniques a month and has 28M social media followers that has helped to provide over 7.5 shares that allow other people to see what the company is about. Mashable isn't just based in America now, there is a website for the UK that shows very similar content as America yet focuses more on what is happening around the UK. Since 2005, Mashable has been brought for 50 Million dollars as they weren't meeting the advertising standards so in a way they are becoming less of a competitor of Vice and if it carries on having losses then they will lose the views that they have today.
