Mating

I'm inspired by vintage scientific illustrations and silhouette cuttings - this often shows up in my illustrations.
"Mating" is the second piece in a Moth series I'm doing. This piece shows two Oleander Hawk Moths (Daphnis nerii) "getting it on". Their mating style is interesting - one hangs from a plant, while the other is suspended in mid-air with just their joining holding them together.
I made this drawing a little more delicate with lighter, fine strokes because I wanted the overall effect to be slightly romantic and surreal.
