This illustration was made for the weekly Illustration Friday contest. The topic/keyword was "MAGICAL". My goal was to catch the atmosphere of a vintage carnival fortune teller.
I worked in Photoshop on my Wacom Cintiq - the complete process took 8 hours. Below you can follow my work-progress from rough sketch to the final version.
First sketch - rather basic

After slight color modification
At this point, I felt the illustration would fit in a kind children book. On the contrary, I wanted a different atmosphere: more mystic, creepy and vintage.
