PBDS 751

This is one of two posters I designed during an online summer class. For this assignment, students had to choose an art exhibit that used light or sound and design a poster for it. Students also had to use the type/ image relationship of fragmentation, in which the type and image disrupt one another (see my 1984 poster for another example).

This poster is for Moon Dust, an art exhibit by Spencer Finch. The work consists of 150 individual chandeliers with 417 lights. The chandeliers are hung individually from the ceiling and form one large, cloud-like structure. Though it is an abstract piece, the sculpture precisely represents the chemical composition of moon dust as it was gathered during the Apollo 17 mission. The sculpture will be hanging in the Baltimore Museum of Art's Fox Court for the next seven years. I definitely recommend taking a trip out there to see it sometime, as well as all the other beautiful work the BMA is exhibiting.

My idea for this poster was to go see the sculpture and get some pictures of it, and then weave the type throughout the sculpture. The poster ended up turning out exactly how I wanted it to look.
