Sensorium is a museum exhibit on synesthesia, the neurological condition that is literally a “crossing of the senses.” This perceptual phenomenon manifests itself in many different forms: one might hear music and instantly see flashes of color, while another will see numbers and simultaneously taste distinct flavors. This unique, personal experience is difficult to portray, but this exhibit attempts to explore its implications. The designed portions of the exhibit specifically focus on chromesthesia—the intersection sound & color.

I chose a design approach that incorporates minimalism with bright and vibrant gradients. Each design element was created to intentionally correlate with the beauty & complexity of synesthesia. From a musical clef shaped like a rainbow, symbolizing the intersection of sound & color, to the gradient blobs that interact with the audio.
