PAN'S LABYRINTH

Collaboration with Steffen Gerlach of Capelight Pictures.
Steffen Gerlach of independent film distributor Capelight Pictures contacted me in February 2018 about a particular poster illustration within my portfolio, and was curious about a collaborative project to bring the illustration new life by releasing it on the official Ultimate Collector's Edition of Guillermo Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth.
Needless to say, I was ecstatic.
The original poster illustration of Pan himself was done during my undergraduate years at Savannah College of Art in Design, and was for the most part majority kept in it's original illustrated vision I had so long ago for the cover.
This film has been a long time favorite of mine, and is a visual masterpiece by Del Toro. I was completely humbled to begin working on it.
To give the outlining box some new characteristic and personality, I created a maze of a border and pitched to have it printing in embossed gold foil. I felt it would push the design forward and go in line with the film's themes of complexity of pathways crossing. The result came out BEAUTIFUL with the help of Steffen and Capelight's team to create a wonderful collector edition.
Illustrations were done in pen and ink and then digitally retouched.
