singularity
/singularity/ was my final project for CAVA225 - Advanced Photography 2 at University of Wollongong. The project was conducted in the lighting studio, utilising studio lights, colour gels and grey background to create the colour effect. Canon EOS 70D, 3 Elichrom lights and 1 Polystand light, along with the Elichrom skyport transmitter, were main tools in use.
After 4 photoshoots, the final photos were edited using Adobe Photoshop CC. In details, the Highlights value was minimised and the Shadows value was maximised to emphasise hair features. Other tools were also applied for erasing spots and removing garment wrinkles.

The project comprises of 4 portraits in A2 size, focusing on the back-side of the subjects, which introduces a new approach to human portraits. Leaving behind the conventional way of photographing portraits with the front features of the subjects and B&W background, these photos highlight the beauty which is often obliviated in portrait photography. The use of colour gels on 2 Elichrom lights towards the grey backdrop creates colour backgrounds that can contribute to the uniqueness of the photos.

Despite having similar hair settings, outfits and face poses, one can feel how unique each subject is. That is also the purpose of this project: each individual is distinctive; in other words, singularity.
