For this project, I was tasked with finding an up and coming artist or band and designing a logo and cover art solution for them that would help solidify their identity. I did research on different logos, typefaces, and cover arts, and drafted different logo and cover art solutions. 

I chose the indie rock band, Channel Drive, for my project. The band, based in Tampa Bay, seeks to keep their hometown feel while also raising awareness for themselves through social media and online music platforms. Channel Drive’s music is characterized by the lead singer, Jacob Fleming's unique and distinct voice. From listening to their music, I saught to design a solution that would communicate the feel of teenage rebellion and discovery. I chose the creative direction of 90s-teen grunge. I hoped to create a logo and cover art that solidified their identity as a group and communicated their genre of music.

Cover Art Inspiration - drawing from albums done by alternative artists such as Day Wave, The Neighbourhood, and Troye Sivan.

Moodboards for three of Channel Drive's songs: "Tendencies", "Lemon Chapstick", and "Does It Matter". The final cover comp was for the band's song, "Interstates".

Final Cover Design

For the final design, I use crushed records and VHS tapes help to communicate the feeling of rebellion. The placement of the objects on the concrete next to a parking strip helped communicate the theme of growth and adventure, while also linking back to the track’s name, “Interstates”. The undamaged tape on the top of the pile helped to signify the idea of coming out of those teenage years as a complete piece. I used the cool saturation to give the cover art the grunge feel I was looking for.
