ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK IN AQUILEIA, AQUILEIA_IUAV (2010)
Abstract
The city of Aquileia is a world-famous site for its abundance of ruins from the Roman period. The topic of study involves the urban redevelopment of the city in order to bring to light the hidden heritage in the ground. The challenge is to bring to light the ancient Roman gate of the city, of which only the foundations remain visible. To protect the historical opera by the deterioration I designed an elevated walkway that serves as a cover of the ruins and at the same time becomes a pedestrian and bicycle path. The view of the portal is provided by the glassy parts placed along the way. The architectural object will become itself a new gate for the city.
