The Invisible City

concept and realisation: Miljana Zeković, Višnja Žugić

Usually considered just as a scenography, the existing space in arts is sentenced to be just a frame for an action. What happens when the Action wants to confront the stillness and indifference of the space that surrounds it? Is it possible to have the real creative interference with an Object? As an answer to this we offer a multilayered transparent alive structure that envelopes the action.

The space - the city - that enables the action is conceived as a constantly changing structure made from real but transparent materials. Rectangular panels are related with each other in a form of an obstacle in front of the event. These obstacles are not wall structures, but sort of a see-through light panels with space between them, so the observer can look at the action that is happening, but still finds himself in a sort of a misty surroundings, where the action is near enough, but not quite clear. Made as a complex structure “the city” is like an always changing mirage that allows all the actions to happen, but enriches the experience of the observer through its ephemeral character.

Through our vision of an invisible city we offer a confrontation at all levels by using all types of layering forms: from the movement of the play confronting the nearest space and the space that moves as a reaction to this drama, to personal confronting of the observer with his own sight that is trying to conquer the space.
