POLLINATORS AT WORK

POLLINATORS AT WORK

Blood from a stone. More bang for your buck. Milking a mouse. Doesn’t matter how you say it, the logic is universal. It’s one I apply to illustration. I put a lot of work into my pictures, and expect to get just as much out of them. Thankfully I can do that without searching for tiny udders.

While I was working on a project – which had nothing to do with bees – I did a sketch of one with an eyeball on its back. I thought it was neat. So, I pinned it to the wall and got back to what I was supposed to be working on. A few years later, I needed a shiny new header for my shiny new website. Old and rusty seemed a little too "steampunky" for my taste. So, I pulled the bee off the wall, made some changes, and came up with the POLLINATOR painting.

From there, I let that stone bleed! Or, more on theme, I let the bee do what it loves . . . work. Posters, prints, stickers, giveaways, and a bunch of other self-promotional bombardments! It has become a logo of sorts. A mascot for Beneath the Cyclops. One that still looks shiny and new with a tank full of gas.

These are the first posters I put together using the POLLINATOR. I’ll toss some more (non poster) examples up here when I get a chance. Until then, you can zip through my Instagram and website to see if you can find it toiling away, pollinating digital blooms.

Guess I can add shameless Bēhance self-promotion to the bee’s resume. Buzz! Buzz!
