For this project, I chose a topic that I was passionate about which is Sustainability, and recycling plastic. My first thought was that when people are passionate about a cause, it's usually very specific to one type of environment. I wanted to choose something, that could come from anywhere. You can find plastic on land and in the water, so my main focus was plastic. But I also learned about loose netting in the ocean, and how animals get caught in them, so I decided to include netting as well. I did research and found that you can take recycled plastic, as well as fishing nets that get left in the ocean or wash up on the shore, and turn it into fabric. My idea was to use that fabric to create a sustainable swimwear line. I designed and illustrated all croquis and swimsuits in this document. I also died my own fabrics using fruits and vegetables as a part of the project as well.
