Public Proscenium

PUBLIC PROSCENIUM
Proscenium is defined as an old stage or the part of the stage in front of the curtain.
“Proscenium” is a design for a theater on the side of Forsyth Park in Savannah Georgia.
The form at the entry was to act like a stage, and allow the patrons to “see and be seen.”
Events in the park could spill into the theater and provide a place to run classes and after school programs for the area around the site. This site was one of the few empty lots along Forsyth Park.
The urban fabric is historic and ornamented, combined with some modern to very contemporary. Many of the historic buildings have been renovated along the park and serve residential for an upper income bracket or businesses, to include a medical school, a major hotel with art gallery, and the Savannah historical society.
Project completed Spring of 2012 as part of a SCAD Bachelor of Fine Arts program under Professor Wishne.
