Urban Beehive
The urban hive project was created in response to the colony collapse disorder (CCD) - a phenomenon responsible for the widespread death of swarms of honey bees around the world.
The spread of monoculture agriculture, contamination by insecticides and herbicides, reduction of biodiversity, artificial selection of bee queens, and feeding with sugar water are among the causes for the weakening of honey bees and increasing lethal attacks on the bees by the Varroa tick.

The city's private, communal, and public gardens provide an opportunity. Hidden from the eye and free of pesticides, there is a significant variety of nectar-bearing flowers that - along with the burgeoning trend of urban agriculture - can be used to rehabilitate wild honey bees.
The urban hive's purpose is twofold. It serves as an ecological bridge for the honey bee, with a focus on rehabilitation rather than honey extraction. And it also raises our awareness, reminding us of the importance of honey bees for our survival.
This project was created as part of my B.Des studies at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem
