Interactive magazine on tablet

For my graduation project I worked together with a Dutch popular scientific magazine, KIJK.
I did research on how a popular scientific article can be converted into an interactive multimedial tablet application, while improving its informative and entertaining nature.
My research has resulted in a two-piece prototype: Two different ways to present a popular scientific article on the tablet.

user interface design
multimedia learning
information visualisation
interaction design
graphic design
Here you see screenshots of the first prototype. It has a similar structure as the original article in the paper magazine, except it is enriched with interactive elements. I have looked at different pieces of information and did research about how a specific piece of information is best presented to the reader. Sometimes text works well, but when the information can be difficult to understand an interactive infographic can make it easier for the reader and also more fun to read.
The second prototype is very different from the first. It is more focused on the capabilities of the tablet and less on what the original article would look like in a paper magazine, therefore the article's structure is very different. Reading the article will become more of an experience. I have created an interactive environment where the user can explore the information in the article by a map. The information is given to the user in different ways: sometimes text, sometimes an infographic and even sometimes a live news feed or twitterfeed. Most important is, which form will present the information (tell the story) best.
